I cannot believe I’ve only just realised it’s currently #SunAwarenessWeek! Although I’ve maybe missed the boat on this one as it’s currently Friday, I truly believe that every week is a great week to raise awareness and educate children on the effects of the sun. With this in mind, I thought I’d look into some good old British weather stats and they’re actually pretty interesting…

It’ll be no surprise to see that out of England, Scotland and Wales, in 2017 Scotland received the largest rainfall, the least amount of sunshine and the lowest mean temperature. That doesn’t mean that sun protection isn’t required in Scotland, it’s just as important and so are canopies as they provide protection from the sun and the rain – all of the 1.54 metres of rain that fell in Scotland 2017. Now that’s a lot of rain!

Moving onto a hotter subject, England received a total of 1,510 hours of sunshine, that may not sound like much (although that is still 4 hours per day on average), it is when you compare it with Wales which received 1,340 hours and Scotland which received 1,290 hours of sunshine.

Talking of impressive numbers, we installed a total length of 1,247 metres of the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy in 2017. That’s 462 metres longer than the height of the world’s tallest building; the Burj Khalifa. So, wherever you are in the country, it seems that a canopy is required to teach your pupils outside, allowing outdoor lessons to go ahead all year round without disruption.
