Shane’s Favourite Installations of all Time

Shane Jerram, our Operations Director, sat down with me as we discussed his favourite installations of all time. Shane has been with the company for 15 years and began his time here in our Projects department. This means he has been heavily involved in all our projects, particularly our larger, more impressive systems, so choosing a handful of favourites was a challenge. However, Shane loves a challenge and rose to it well.
Oaklands Secondary School, London
In 2011, we completed a large project at Oaklands Secondary School in Tower Hamlets, London. The project which was designed by David Miller Architects, consisted of five glass canopies, including standard products from our Kensington range of Glass Canopies, and Bespoke Glass Canopies.
Shane said he picked this project as “it was my very first long duration contractor job which I learned a great deal from”.

Barking Abbey School, London
Barking Abbey School is a much more recent project where we installed two extra large Tarnhow Dome Freestanding Canopies across two sites for the school in London. Both canopies combined cover a total of 448 square meters.
Shane loves this installation because not only do both canopies look fantastic and provide outdoor dining space for so many pupils, “it was a multi-site project where we were the main contractor, supplying the whole canopy packing including the groundworks”.

Mead Primary School, Essex
Mead Primary School may have opted for a standard Coniston, in the standard white colour however, there’s nothing standard about this canopy. The Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy we installed at Mead Primary School in 2016 was an impressive 112 metres long. It spans the entire length of the building it is connected to, providing shade and shelter outside multiple classrooms, benefiting hundreds of children.
When asked why he chose this canopy installation as one of his favourites of all time, he said, “because it is a MASSIVE, beautiful, white, simple Coniston” and that’s the kind of enthusiasm and pride we love here at Able Canopies.
