PREPARED FOR WINTER: Local primary school has the answer to our erratic British weather!
It has only recently been installed, but already Great Bowden Primary School’s fantastic canopy extension has been a haven for community events, the children’s playtime and even science lessons…
Staff and pupils are thrilled with their brand new wall mounted canopy with safety barriers which was designed, manufactured and installed by school specialists Able Canopies.
“Despite the rain, the shelter of ‘The Pod’ meant we were still able to investigate Bernoulli’s principle of flight by testing a range of paper ‘flying machines!’”
Nicknamed ‘The Pod’, the canopy has already proved invaluable for school day activities as well as after school clubs, which may have otherwise been affected by poor weather or lack of room.
Head Teacher, Stefanie Edwards said, “Not only does the wall canopy enable the children to get fresh air and exercise in all weather conditions, it also benefits their learning experience; allowing them to enjoy science experiments, dance, sport, role-play, workshops and so much more in the outdoors. It’s already being used extensively during curriculum time – in a recent science lesson, despite the rain, the shelter of ‘The Pod’ meant we were still able to investigate Bernoulli’s principle of flight by testing a range of paper ‘flying machines!’”
Supporting the happy and caring learning environment of Great Bowden Primary School, The Market Harborough and Bowden’s Charity kindly donated £10,000 towards the cost of the canopy. Stefanie continued, “We are extremely thankful to The Market Harborough and Bowden’s Charity for their very generous contribution, without which this project would not have been possible.”
Notwithstanding the short time that The Pod has been in place, it is already being used by the school’s community partners for cake sales, lunchtime dance clubs, after school science clubs and the 2nd Great Bowden Brownies Group.
Able Canopies worked closely with staff at the school to ensure all needs were met before, during and after the installation, which has a long-lasting structure set to see the school through the changing British weather for many years to come. Stephanie said, “Able Canopies were professional, helpful and courteous throughout the project. They delivered exactly what we wanted on time and on budget. We now have an asset that is having an impact on the whole school.”
This Wall Mounted Canopy was designed and manufactured by Able Canopies Ltd. and installed at Great Bowden Primary School, Great Bowden, Leicestershire.
