My Favourite Derbyshire Installation So Far…
When it comes to choosing an area to focus on for my favourite installations, I have to think about what we have installed within each area. Today I have decided to focus on Derbyshire, as we have installed some stunning canopies here over the years However, my favourite installation is not a canopy this time; it is the six Langdale Cycle Shelters we installed at Noel Baker School, Derbyshire.
Noel Baker School, Derbyshire – Cycle Shelters & Cycle Racks
In August 2012, my fitting teams installed six Langdale Cycle Shelters and 152 Sheffield Cycle Racks at Noel Baker School in Derby, Derbyshire. This is one of my favourite installations, not only because of the products installed but also because the school required a large amount of cycle storage and I think it’s important that children are given the opportunity and encouragement to cycle to school and to know that their bikes will be safe & secure during lesson times.
During the summer of 2012, this highly motivated secondary school underwent a multimillion-pound refurbishment with Balfour Beatty and reopened in September 2012. We were contracted to supply and install contemporary & robust cycle parking facilities for their students to use on a regular basis.
The Langdale Cycle Shelter is a modern & stylish free standing shelter that is covered with extra strong polycarbonate that is 200 times stronger than glass, making it ideal for a school environment. It is installed with Sheffield Cycle Racks and can be manufactured to be BREEAM compliant if required.
If there was one thing that would have put me off choosing this installation as my favourite, it would have been because we don’t have any images of the groundwork completed by the main contractors. Unfortunately, we were not able to go back to the site after the refurbishment had been completed. However, I still wanted to show you this installation, as I think the cycle shelters look great, and I also think it’s fantastic that a school was willing to offer a large amount of cycle storage to their pupils.
