How to… Get the Most Out of Your Canopy for Educational Environments.
In the first two posts of the How to… Get the Most out of Your Canopy series, we brought you ideas for ways in which you can use your canopy for events, then we went through how you can use your canopy for storing items such as seating and play equipment.
Before I continue with the third inclusion of this series, remember that you can download the full guide now FREE by clicking here How to… Get the Most out of Your Canopy Guide
Don’t forget, our full, downloadable guide includes loads of ideas plus some fantastic lesson plans and fun & educational work sheets for the children to use.
So here is the third suggestion, to help you get the most out of your canopy.
Sheltered Waiting Areas
Even if your canopy has been purchased with a specific use in mind, you can still use it for many other things to help the day go a little more smoothly, such as a waiting shelter!
It sounds simple and maybe a little obvious, I know, but parents can wait under the canopy whilst waiting for their children to finish lessons when the weather is wet and windy. This could help make their experience with your school or nursery even more delightful and convenient than usual.
It’s not only the parents who can benefit from the canopy for this use. Whilst the children are queuing up, waiting to get into class, or queuing for their outdoor PE lessons, they can wait under the canopy to gain shelter from poor weather conditions. They will also be able to gain shade from the sun on hot and humid days, whilst also keep protected from harmful UV rays.
So now your thinking, wow, that’s really useful and we could do with a canopy at our school. Well, there’s more! Teachers and staff can enjoy the benefits too. For example, when the mid-day assistants are on the playground on hot sunny days and need to gain shade, they can watch the children from underneath the canopy enabling them to keep cool and alert rather than hot and lethargic. The canopy will also come in handy on rainy days keeping your staff sheltered from the rain.
Your pupils will also be able to continue enjoy playtime outside when the weather is poor as they can play games under the canopy, enabling them to enjoy their freedom of play whilst also refreshing them with fresh air ready for the afternoon lessons.
Don’t forget to come back next week to see many ideas for how your canopy can be used for fun outdoor lessons!
