Employee Spotlight: Shane Jerram
This month, I sat down with our Operations Director, Shane Jerram who is an important part of the Able Canopies Jigsaw. We discussed his role within the company, what motivates him, how you might get to work with him and much more. Read on to discover what he had to say about his time here so far.
“I have been with the company for 15 years and during that time I have gained a wealth of knowledge in construction, having worked my way up the ladder from Contracts Manager to Operations Director. I have also gained various construction qualifications within those years including NVQ’s, NEBOSH and health and safety qualifications, which have helped me get to where I am today.
My job is quite detailed and varied, and no two days are the same, which consequently is what I love about it. To give you an idea of what my days entail, I am responsible for running all site, warehousing and logistic activities, health and safety, preparation of pricing, bids, tenders, quotes, installations, and the general day to day running of the company alongside the Managing Director. I also attend site surveys, so you may even get to meet me in person on-site.
Talking of meeting people, another thing I love about my job is that I get to meet people from all occupations, along with the fact that I get to wear different hats on a daily basis.
In terms of success, I am proud that we successfully managed the company through the recent economic challenges including Brexit and COVID, with the whole team pulling together to get through them all. The way we work together to achieve the results needed makes Able Canopies feels like a family; if something needs doing, we will get it done and to a high standard. And, although I am a self-motivated person, achieving those high standards is something that adds to my motivation.
When it comes to my favourite projects, we have a few bespoke projects in the pipeline which I am particularly looking forward to. I really enjoy the challenge of bespoke projects as I get to learn new aspects of construction materials, and installation methods.
What one skill do I think everyone should learn? Theres two; prioritising and self-confidence. If you can hack them, you will go a long way. I am the youngest of seven children and so those qualities were necessary as growing up in a large family has definitely shaped my teamwork and collaboration skills.”
