Employee Spotlight: Dawn Jameson

This week, I sat down with Dawn Jameson, our Finance Manager.

“I started my career at Able Canopies over 16 years ago helping out in the office for a couple of hours a week during the summer holidays, and I’m still here! I now work full-time as a Finance Manager.

I manage the Accounts department and ensure all payments are made on-time including supplier payments and processing VAT returns, CIS, credit control, sales and purchase ledger and of course preparing payroll, ensuring my colleagues are paid.

Keeping motivated to come into work every day is easy; we have a great company culture, and everyone I work alongside feels like family, especially Tracy, our Managing Director who I work with daily. And don’t forget coffee, lots of coffee helps too!

I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my job role, so if everything goes smoothly, I am left with a great sense of satisfaction at the end of the day, which is my favourite part of the job.

Professionally, I have grown a lot whilst working at Able Canopies, learning a lot from Will at Accsys, our accountant which I will be forever grateful for. I also completed my AAT Level 2 qualification back in 2011 which I am particularly proud of and would like to maybe consider completing my level 3 in the future.

If there’s one essential skill that everyone should learn, I think it should be to have a basic understanding of financial concepts, such as, managing expenses, understanding credit, managing their money more effectively as a business, or an individual, and understanding the broader financial health of an organisation.

And last but not least, something that most people don’t know about me is that I play pool for the Essex County Ladies team, and my secret talent is my party trick of performing a head stand whilst under the influence!”
