Employee Spotlight: Christine Baines

Employee Spotlight: Christine Baines

Usually when it comes to the employee spotlights, I find myself interviewing my colleagues however, the time has come for me to tell you a little about myself, so here goesโ€ฆ

I am the Marketing Assistant Manager at Able Canopies and have been with the company for 14 years. When I began my career here in 2011, I had little knowledge of marketing. However, with in-house training, marketing qualifications and guidance from my managers, I have progressed to my current role which is an achievement I am particularly proud of.

My role mainly entails creating and managing our marketing campaigns, keeping our website and brochures up to date and launching new products that our in-house design team develop. Iโ€™m a very creative person, so working in marketing suits me well; I am able to be creative at work whether that be designing artwork for adverts and company literature, or writing content for our website, newsletters and case studies.

My favourite tasks I would say are designing artwork such as for adverts, branded merchandise and literature. I also enjoy putting our school newsletter (P&LO) together as I love that our products and ideas help children enjoy the great outdoors. We are in the process of designing a new brochure and whilst we have an external team that does this for us, I always find this an exciting project to be a part of as Iโ€™m quite โ€˜old schoolโ€™ and prefer holding a physical brochure in my hand. (Ooh, and that new brochure smell!)

Keeping motivated is quite easy for me as I love to be kept busy and in marketing thereโ€™s always plenty to do. Every Monday, I list my main projects to complete for the week and the motivation (aka challenge ๐Ÿ˜‰) lies in the aim to get them all ticked off the list by Friday.

I think the main reasons I have chosen to stay at Able Canopies for so long (apart from the fact that they have chosen to put up with me) are how well we all get along, and how weโ€™re happy to help each other out if needed. We call ourselves the โ€˜Able Familyโ€™ and it really does feel like we are a family. I have always said that when it comes to job satisfaction, enjoying the company of your colleagues plays a big part in your happiness at work.

If I had to tell you something that most people donโ€™t know about me, it would probably be that I love the challenge of wildlife photography, particularly birds as catching them in action can be tricky. I really enjoy walking and stretching my legs after being in the office all week, so I spend most weekends in the middle of nowhere with my camera in hand. Something that is probably more surprising to those that know me, is that I completed my CBT a few years ago and drove a Kawasaki KLX for a couple of years.
