Colchester Hospital Patients Benefit from Generous Donation from Able Canopies

Cancer patients will benefit from a generous donation made by a north-Essex man and his family to the Oaks Hospital in Colchester.

David Wood has been a patient at the Oaks Hospital over the last three years undergoing treatment for bladder cancer, including surgery and chemotherapy. With his sons, Mark, William and Leo, he has kindly donated a laptop computer to say thank you to the staff for the care he has received. David’s son Mark Wood, Managing Director of family-run business Able Canopies Ltd, said:

“Our family saw at first hand the excellent care my father received from his Consultant, Dr. Bruce Sizer, and the team at the Oaks, and we wanted to show our appreciation.”

“Many patients these days are well informed about treatment options for different types of cancer and access information from different sources like the internet,” said Dr Sizer.

“However, it can sometimes be difficult to relate this more general information to a particular patient’s own disease. This high powered laptop allows us to show patients their own CT and MRI scans in remarkable detail. Also, as it is Wi-fi enabled, these results can be viewed by patients in their own in-patient rooms. This is particularly important as family members and friends can be present while patient privacy is maintained.”

Juliet Driver, Matron at the Oaks Hospital, said: “The computer will be used to benefit the ongoing care of patients on the ward. We are very grateful to David, Mark, Leo and William, and on behalf of the staff I would like to thank them for, their thoughtfulness and generosity.”
