Children of Icknield Infant and Nursery School Enjoy Learning In The Outdoors

Pupils and staff of Icknield Infant and Nursery School are celebrating the installation of their colourful new canopy.

Icknield Infant and Nursery School in Letchworth provides a happy learning environment for children aged three to seven. “Ofsted reported that the children of our school ‘love learning’. Outdoor activities play a big part in this and with our new canopy the children can enjoy them all year round.” Full of up to date resources, all used to make learning fun and creative, the school encourages outdoor activities.

There are imaginative play areas with climbing equipment, a wildlife area for the children to explore and an extraordinary willow tunnel and dome.

And now, thanks to their recent canopy installation, all reception classes have access to a sheltered outdoor learning space. The school’s Finance Officer, Fiona Gascoigne says ‘Ofsted reported that the children of our school ‘love learning’. Outdoor activities play a big part in this and with our new canopy the children can enjoy them all year round.’

Created by school specialists Able Canopies, the new canopy provides a long-lasting extension to the nursery classroom enabling the children to enjoy the outdoors with UV protection from the sun and shelter from the rain.

‘Able Canopies are brilliant to work with,’ says Fiona. ‘We had a canopy installed by them outside our reception area about a year ago and were very happy with the service and results then, so there was no hesitation in using them again.’

Able Canopies worked closely with staff at the school to ensue all needs were met before, during and after the installation. Fiona continues, ‘They were friendly, helpful and ensured the safety of our pupils and staff at all times. We were happy to have the water butt added to the package, allowing the children to collect rainwater for watering the garden. It has helped our school become even more eco-friendly.’
