£7.8m Renovation for Derbyshire School

Murray Park Community School in Derbyshire were undergoing a huge £7.8m renovation which included a new school building featuring 15 new classrooms, a reception area, office space and canopies to the exterior.

Able Canopies were invited to tender for the works, and we were more than happy to, particularly because we had recently completed a number of successful jobs for Wates Contraction who were managing the new project. These projects were at Westbury School, Bluecoat Primary School, Poplars Farm Primary School and The Beacons Children’s Centre.

They were originally interested in timber canopies but due to reviewing the overall budgets, they found that an aluminium canopy would prove more cost effective and would still look fantastic against the backdrop of the new building. The canopies that were specified for the project were supplied by a competitor however, all parties involved expressed that they preferred Able Canopies based on both the design of the product and our company ethos along with previous experience of working with us. Not only had we worked with Wates Construction on many occasions, we had also worked with Lungfish, the architects who were working on the project too.

It was agreed that the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy would be the perfect product to provide the shade and shelter required around the classrooms along with three Langdale Cycle Shelters to create the secure bicycle parking that the school required for their pupils.
