White Spire School is a special school for all ages in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. Mr Wilson, the Assistant Head Teacher called in with an enquiry for a large canopy.
He was looking to create a large covered area in their playground that they could use as an outside gym all year round.
The Solution
Once we had conducted a site survey to establish the schools’ exact requirements, the product that stood out as being the perfect solution was the Hamilton Big Span Canopy. This is because the school wanted to cover a large area – 16m x 11m and the Hamilton can span up to 11m and has an unlimited length.
There were two other canopies that would have been large enough for the project which were the Double Grange Free Standing Canopy and the Codale Conic Tensile Fabric Structure, however, the Hamilton fitted in flawlessly with the design requirements of the school.
Milton Keynes Council required the school to submit a planning application for the project and we were able to assist them with submitting documents and various other paperwork.
The Installation
Once planning was approved, installation was arranged during the summer holidays in August 2014. The school chose to have it powder coated in a colourful Yellow Green colour (RAL 6018).
As the gym equipment had already been installed prior to the canopy installation, we took special measures and worked around the equipment and protected it to avoid any damages.
The canopy has enabled the gym equipment to be used all year round even when it’s raining and avoids the risk of the equipment becoming slippery from rain or dew which could cause injuries.
