The Brief
The Wren School in is a secondary school and sixth form college in Reading, Berkshire which caters for approximately 994 pupils each year form the ages of 11 to 19.
They received a grant for a commercial umbrella to be installed within their grounds to provide shade and shelter to their students. The school’s Finance Officer therefore reached out to us as we had previously installed a wall mounted canopy at her previous school, Highcrest Academy in High Wycombe in 2015, and was very happy with the service and product provided.
The Solution
The school had a newly landscaped sunken garden area which featured a raised circle and wished to have an umbrella installed in the centre. However, once we discussed the construction of the raised area, it was apparent that it wouldn’t be suitable because although it was concrete, the area underneath was not concrete, and our umbrellas require padstones of between 600mm x 600mm x 600mm or a 1000mm x 1000mm x 1000mm depending on the size of the umbrella.
They were keen to provide shade and shelter within their school, so they looked at other areas that may be suitable and rather liked the idea of an umbrella adjacent to their café building. This area was perfect, and we therefore sent them estimates for an Ulverston Umbrella, Drayton Umbrella and a Banbury Waterproof Shade Sail.
Once they had received the estimates, they requested a full site survey which resulted in a firm quotation being sent to the school for a 6m x 6m Ulverston Umbrella which was their final chosen product.
Installation
Just one month after the order was placed, we installed the commercial umbrella in April 2023, leaving the school with a colourful covered dining area that can be used all year round.
They were very pleased with the end result, and when asked what they thought of the product and service provided they said:
“Efficient, the service was excellent, worked with us and was very tidy, left work area as clean as when arrived.”
