Brief
Hackney Care for Kids located in Stoke Newington, London, is a full-day care nursery that has been providing early childhood education since 1983. The nursery accommodates 38 children, ranging in age from 10 months to 4 years and 6 months, and is renowned it’s “warm, safe home from home atmosphere with its light airy feel and look,” providing “full-time day care and educational stimulation enabling each child to achieve their full potential.”
As part of a broader renovation project to modernise and improve its facilities, Hackney Care for Kids sought to upgrade its existing canopies (which were not originally installed by us). Their goal was to find a cost-effective yet contemporary canopy solution that would enhance their entrance areas while providing reliable weather protection for parents, children, and staff waiting outside.
In February 2024, the nursery collaborated with Happe Contracts Ltd, a specialist building and roofing contractor, to facilitate these improvements. Happe Contracts Ltd reached out to us for a quotation on two entrance canopies that would ensure protection from the elements while maintaining a sleek and modern appearance.
With these enhancements, Hackney Care for Kids is set to create a more welcoming and functional entrance space, aligning with their commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children and families.
Proposal
To meet the nursery’s specific requirements, we recommended the supply and installation of two Coniston Wall Mounted Canopies to provide weather protection at both main entrances. After carefully reviewing the contractor’s tender and the nursery’s needs, we determined that this was the most effective solution to fulfil their objectives.
We then prepared and submitted a detailed proposal, for the two canopies measuring 2.2m x 1.5m and 2.65m x 2m, both finished in Signal Blue RAL 5005 to complement the nursery’s aesthetic.
Installation
In June 2024, Hackney Care for Kids placed their first order for two Coniston Wall Mounted Canopies to enhance their outdoor space. To minimise disruption to nursery operations, we scheduled the installation over the weekend, ensuring a seamless process while maintaining the nursery’s Monday-to-Friday schedule.
By August 2024, we successfully installed the first order of canopies at the nursery’s entrance. Impressed with the results, Hackney Care for Kids decided to expand their outdoor coverage further. In October 2024, they placed an additional order for two more Coniston canopies. One was 2.65m x 2m at the top of rear playground staircase, and the other was a 2.5m x 1.5m installed on the front entrance. Both were completed together in November 2024.
With all four canopies now in place, the nursery benefits from versatile, all-weather outdoor protection, ensuring staff, students, and visitors stay sheltered in any conditions. The Coniston Canopy’s compact yet efficient design provides ample covered space without compromising the nursery’s outdoor areas, making it a cost-effective and practical solution.
The nursery was delighted with the final result, and when the children and staff returned on Monday morning, they were excited to see their new outdoor additions. We are proud to have played a role in enhancing their learning environment!
