Canopy FAQ’s
What sizes do canopies come in?
Have you been pondering the question “how big are canopies”? Well ponder no more, our canopies are available in all different sizes. Each canopy is made to order to ensure it fits your area perfectly, providing you with the exact amount of shade and shelter required. Canopies such as the Coniston in our Wall Mounted Canopies range, can span up to an impressive 6 metres from the wall and can be of any length.
How do you clean canopies?
You’ll be pleased to read that our canopies do not require a lot of hard work to keep them looking fresh and clean. The guidelines for cleaning each canopy varies and you can find the information within the aftersales pack provided however, the general rule of thumb for most structures it to wash them with warm, soapy water and a soft bristled broom/cloth. No harsh chemicals or abrasives.
How are canopies measured?
In order to provide you with an estimate, we are happy for you to send us the dimensions you require the canopy to be. This would be the length and the width, it’s as simple as that. If you would like a firm quotation, we would need to attend your site to carry out a free site survey and take in depth measurements.
What are canopies made of?
Canopies are made from all different materials. Here at Able Canopies we ensure we only use the highest quality materials to ensure we can uphold our product guarantees and life expectancies. As an example, our Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy is made completely from marine grade aluminium, many of our free standing canopies are made from steel. Our timber canopies are made from FSC certified Glu-laminated timber.
The roof panel materials we offer include vandal and shatter resistant polycarbonate which does not yellow over time, waterproof tensile fabric and toughened laminated glass.
What are canopies used for?
Canopies are used for so many applications that I simply could not list them all here. The primary use is of course to provide heat and UV protection from the sun, creating a safe, cool shaded area and also shelter from the rain and snow, keeping the area underneath dry. Our existing customers use their canopies for applications such as covered walkways, alfresco dining canopies, outdoor study canopies, outdoor classrooms, swimming pool cover, retail shelters, door canopies, PSHE canopies, venue and events shelters, storage shelters, sandpit cover, playground canopies, outdoor learning canopies, care home shelters, hospital waiting shelters and much more.
What do canopies do?
This depends on the type of canopy you purchase and the specifications that particular canopy boasts. As an example, our Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy is simply put, the king of canopies, it provides high UV protection from the sun blocking over 98% of harmful UV rays generated by the sun. It also provides protection from the rain and snow and with the addition of canopy side panels (canopy walls) it also protects from the wind. View our Outdoor Classrooms for our canopies that are enclosed with side panels.
Our shade sails on the other hand are stunning structures that liven up any outside area with the bright colours on offer, yet they only provide protection from the sun a they are not waterproof, hence why they are often referred to as ‘sun shades’.
Canopies for Schools
Our canopies are perfect for schools, nurseries, pre-schools, colleges and universities. In fact, the education sector is our most frequently installed sector with thousands of installations completed across the UK.
Schools find that canopies make such a big difference to their teaching abilities as well as the freedom and happiness of their children. A school canopy provides an area for teachers to take their lessons outside, away from the classroom providing their pupils with fresh air whilst still teaching. They also provide areas for children to play, dine and study.
Canopies for Shops and Restaurants
Canopies are the perfect addition to shops and restaurants as they enable you to expand your selling space and dining space. Expanding your selling or dining capacity means you can sell more products or serve more guests, resulting in an increase of income.
Ideal canopies include our wall mounted canopies and commercial awnings as they are attached to the wall and provide a covered area adjacent to your building. Our Bioclimatic Pergolas are also very popular within restaurants and hotels as they feature adjustable roof slats which can be opened and closed to suit the current weather conditions with the touch of a button.
Canopies for Hospitals and Care Homes
Hospital canopies provide staff, patients and visitors with a dry and sheltered area where they can take some time out in the fresh air to get away from the hustle and bustle of hospital life. They are also popular for creating covered waiting areas as well as entrances with the use of door canopies, keeping people dry when entering the building and reducing the amount of rain driving in which can cause a slip hazard.
Studies have shown that when patients spend time outside and time away from the indoor hospital environment, it positively impacts their recovery time as spending time outside in nature improves our mental wellbeing.
Canopies for Commercial Settings
We have installed many canopies at commercial settings in the UK including warehouses, head offices, factories and laboratories. They have provided our customers with dry storage areas, many of store their items securely with the addition of side fills, lockable gates and roller shutters.
They also provided sheltered areas for their staff and visitors to enjoy time outside whilst keeping protected from the weather.
