In September 2011 the Lidl store in Waterlooville, Hampshire underwent a refurbishment to their entrance area. However, since the refurbishment was completed, experienced a number of incidents of customers slipping over due to rain water entering the building and making the floor wet and slippery. This made the entrance area a high hazard that needed to be rectified.
In February 2013 it was therefore established that the store would require further work to resolve these issues. Poole & Pattle are a chartered architect practice based in Suffolk; they designed an extension to Lidl’s current entrance to transform it into a much safer area with an entrance canopy to eliminate any future customer incidents.
The Solution
The architect put together a plan which included an extension to the current entrance, a canopy to reduce rain entering the building and various other additions to make it a much safer area
The architect specified our Kensington Wall Mounted Entrance Canopy as the ideal canopy for the extension. This is a cantilevered canopy, making it perfect for busy retail entrances due to the fact that it has no canopy posts. It has a simplistic, modern design that works well within retail environments.
The Kensington Wall Mounted Entrance Canopy can be covered with a choice of 5mm solid polycarbonate, 16mm structured polycarbonate or 10mm toughened glass roof panels. The architect specified the toughened glass option and chose to have the steel frame galvanised and powder coated in White Aluminium (RAL 9006) for a clean and neutral finish to match the building.
The Installation
The canopy was ordered in January 2014 and in order to keep to the scheduled re-opening date of the store, we had to install the canopy by the end of February.
When the order was placed for the entrance canopy, we were not able to survey the area and measure up because the extension was not yet completed.
To enable us to keep to the installation dates, we had to order the canopy components and manufacture the canopy working from the architects drawings.
All parties liaised together well which resulted in the entrance canopy fitting the area perfectly and being installed on time and to schedule.
