Rain won’t stop play at Ashburnham School Children’s Centre
The children and staff of Ashburnham School Children’s Centre are really feeling the benefits of their new all-weather outdoor area, which the children say allows them to play outside “come rain or shine!”.
The new centre, which opened in March this year, specialises in providing support and care for autistic children and young people between the ages of 5 and 18. Outdoor play facilities are a vital part of services offered by the centre and the addition of a new wall mounted canopy, supplied and installed by Able Canopies Ltd, has allowed staff to bring these facilities to the children all year round. Not only can the children now enjoy their outside area when it is raining, but the canopy also provides high UV protection to allow the children to enjoy the benefits of outdoor play in sunny weather too.
The canopy provides cover for an important den area where children can go if they feel it is getting too busy or noisy indoors for them; garden activities are also held under the canopy, as well as independent play activities. The children are delighted with the new area and parents have commented on how the addition of a canopy has enhanced the building.
Located in a newly refurbished bungalow on the site of Ashburnham Community Primary School, the centre was set up by St Quintin’s Centre North as a satellite service to provide support to disabled children, young people, and their families in the south of the borough. The centre currently supports and cares for, on average, 10 children a day; if you are interested in your child/children attending the centre please call Tracy Beard (Centre Manager) on 0208 968 2570.
