Pupils at The James Cambell Primary School can play and learn outside “come rain or shine”!
Staff at The James Cambell Primary School in Dagenham have enhanced their playground area with two new canopies to allow for outdoor play and learning even in poor weather conditions.
The school, which teaches over 850 pupils, has had many canopies installed over the years and, due to expansion, they needed two new canopies to provide extra shelter in their playground. Mrs Thomas who has been the school’s Head Teacher for 9 years explains: “We wanted the canopies to enhance our playground area and make it usable during unsettled weather. We also needed some shelter for the parents on rainy days!”
The canopies, supplied and installed by Able Canopies Ltd., are fully watertight structures constructed from aluminium frames, with polycarbonate roof panels that provide protection from harmful UV rays as well as inclement weather. With the installation of these new structures, pupils and staff can access the outdoors whatever the weather, ensuring outdoor play and learning is no longer disrupted by changeable weather conditions, and the children are offered some extra shade and protection on hot and sunny days.
The canopies not only benefit the children and enhance their ability to spend more time outdoors, they also offer parents a dry and pleasant place to wait when collecting their children at the end of the school day.
Mrs Thomas, Head Teacher at The James Cambell Primary School comments: “We are an ever growing school and the new canopies provide us with a space for outdoor learning and play, come rain or shine! The parents are delighted to have a dry area to wait for their children at the end of the day if the weather is unsettled. Overall, the canopies are an excellent addition to the school.”
