It’s Smiley Faces all Round for Devonshire Primary School Nursery

Children at Devonshire Primary School’s Nursery can now enjoy outdoor play & learning all year round thanks to their shiny new play canopy!

The nursery in Sutton that caters for up to 52 children a day had been wishing for a new canopy for 4 years, as their existing canopy had started letting rain in and hampering their efforts to provide outdoor play. But with major redevelopment work happening at the school, they have only now been able to bring their dream to life. The old canopy has been removed and replaced with a larger colourful canopy that keeps the area dry and usable, whatever the weather.

The new canopy has a vibrant ‘Rainbow Banner’ fixed to the front of it as well as coloured posts and post pads to fit in with the Early Years’ environment. The children were asked what their favourite colours were and these were incorporated into the canopy to add a personal touch.

Mrs Attrill, a teacher who has worked at the nursery school for 8 years is very pleased with the canopy, which was supplied by Able Canopies Ltd; “We have been waiting for this for a long time and everyone is absolutely over the moon. There are so many more smiley faces at playtime and it’s a joy to see the positive impact that it is making to their outdoor learning experiences.”

Since the canopy has been installed the nursery has benefited from using it as an outdoor classroom come rain or shine, enabling them to offer their children active learning and play activities all year round. Mrs Attrill continues; “The staff are very pleased with the enhanced learning space which is vital for the children’s outdoor learning. Many parents have also commented on how lovely it is for the children to have a much larger outside play area.”
