The Brief
Able Canopies Ltd. work in partnership with Portakabin as many of their clients require shade and shelter structures that can be moved at a later date if required.
Easyjet were looking for a shade and shelter option that could offer continuous weather protection along 3 sides of their building. They needed it to cover a walkway from the exit doors on their building to the entry doors on their stair pod.
The Solution
Able Canopies offer several canopies that are suitable for Portakabins buildings and on this occasion, we felt that the Grange Mono-Pitch Free Standing Canopy would be ideal. The Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy is usually the most suitable product; however, we were advised not to install the posts into the ground and therefore felt the Grange Mono-Pitch Free Standing Canopy would be most suitable.
Following a meeting between Portakabin and Easyjet, the customer chose preference with Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy which is our most popular structure. To make the product work for them we offered an installation fixing method of hidden internal cleats so not to show fixings and to avoid any trip hazards.
The canopy would also cover a small set of stairs and we therefore accounted for this and manufactured the canopy to be slightly higher than usual to over the stairway whilst still offering more than enough internal head height.
Installation
Originally, it was established that we would be installing the canopy airside which means that additional insurance would be required because the planes are at risk of damage. Able Canopies were happy to organise this; however, the site managers changed the workers’ area from ‘airside’ to ‘landside’, so additional insurances were not required.
The installation was booked for 11th – 19th April and was completed on time without any issues along the way.
We visited site a few weeks after to install 5mm solid polycarbonate side fill to offer additional wind protection along one side of the canopy.
