The Brief

A commercial site in Wales were looking to add shade and shelter to the inside of some castle ruins that were on their grounds. The castle ruins were not listed so there wouldn’t be any restrictions however, the canopy would need to fit within the ruins, with the canopy foundations not affecting the caste ruins.

They planned to use the area as an adventure area, based on social rather than practical activity for their staff. A Canopy would enable them to use the area in all weather conditions so their planned activities can go ahead, keeping everyone dry and comfortable.

The Solution

They were initally interested in an umbrella or tensile fabric structure however, to provide the size of cover they required, we suggested our range of Tarnhow Timber Canopies. To give them a choice, we therefore quoted for a Shade Sail array, a Double Codale Conic Free Standing Canopy and a Tarnhow Curved Freestanding Timber Canopy.

Upon receipt of the quotes and after further consideration, they asked for a quote for the Tarnhow Dome Freestanding Timber Canopy which then became the preferred product and they therefore placed an order.

The Tarnhow Dome Freestanding Timber Canopy is a popular choice with many sectors and its easy to see why. It is manufactured from Glulam timber, and the roof is made from curved Glulam timber which gives it a real wow factor.

The Installation

The installation was carried out over 5 days as planned and the end result looks great.

The Tarnhow Dome was an excellent choice; the attractive curved timber beams that are made from Glulam timber fit in perfectly with the ancient castle ruins much better than steel or aluminium would have.
